If those are your last names, as designers, you have an obligation to start a sweet ass studio. That’s what Sofie Hannibal and Nan Na Hvass did in 2006. The work they’ve produced since is even more impressive than their moniker.
The duo has worked in damn near every format imaginable (awards, interiors, print, textiles, environmental, etc etc) and it’s never diluted their trademark style. Something to aspire to.

I really love the breadth of style from Atelier Olschinski, a duo out of Austria. Just compare these two pieces above and below. Metropolis vs Space Odyssey.

They have such a great eye that extends not only to graphic design, but to photography, editorial art direction and plain old high-end concepts. I like. A lot.

Last week we received a nice little email from the gang over at Patswerk, a cool new design agency started by some young + aspiring designers + illustrators in the Netherlands. Maybe it’s their playful use of hand drawn type or maybe the fact that they’re just as likely to put a rattle can to a wall as they are to open up Photoshop, I’m not sure, but I get more of a collective vibe than an agency one. That’s a very good thing.

Today’s match was between Fullsteam + the Durham Performing Arts Center and boy, it was a doozy. Let’s just say, there were a lot of socks.

And there it is, folks! DPAC has been eliminated by Fullsteam. It was an admirable effort on the parts of both teams. Fullsteam pulled ahead early, after knocking two of the DPAC players’ balls into the far area of the park more than once (we play with “prison rules”–no out-of-bounds). DPAC rallied in the second half and sealed a second place finish but in the end, Fullsteam was able to slip past and finish each player’s game.
As always, you can see photos from the game at our Flickr. Tomorrow’s match will be between Baldwin& and Ignite Social Media. Fridays playoffs are being moved to the lawn at DPAC. If you’re downtown-come out and watch!
After the jump: Socks. Lots of ‘em.

Bust! Ogilvy Durham and IAVO Research + Scientific were slated to battle it out on the croquet field today but alas, Ogilvy bailed! I’m sure they had their reasons. Regardless, its a technical forfeit so IAVO grabs a W and moves on to the playoffs.

Stay tuned-tomorrow should be a Durham classic. We’ve got FullSteam pitted against the Durham Performing Arts Center. Beer vs. Art? Yes, please.
So, as some of you might have heard, Flywheel is hosting a croquet tournament here in downtown Durham. 8 teams. 5 days. No survivors.

Ok, there are survivors. You got me. Today was round one of the tournament and we found ourselves pitted against our friends at Original Projects/Durty Durham. It was a tight game through the first stretch but in the end, we prevailed (obvi). We had, as they say, the eye of the tiger.
You can see photos from todays match at our Flickr. Check back throughout the week-we’ll be updating daily and by Friday we’ll all know who rules the school. Or, the croquet field.
