I remember when I graduated design school (yes, a long time ago), we had a Portfolio review. Dutch design studio LUST created an app for the inaugural electronic version of Items, titled Items Dutch Design Graduates 2011.
Included: 47 featured graduation projects from a dozen design schools of the area, plus opinions on the designers by some experts. Oh and there is also two essays on Dutch design education. The reader can filter by designer, school, discipline, medium, etc..
BRILLIANT. The future is here.

Quite a nice selection of work from Paris’ Atelier Müesli. “Our work isn’t restricted to just using the computer, we developed home-made process : woodcut, silkscreen and try to combine them to enrich the project.” Whatever it is they’re doing, they’re doing it right.

I really just can’t get enough of the stuff coming from French design studio Superscript. A refined typographic density seems to permeate all of their work, resulting in beautifully layered compositions. Inspiring.

When I see work like that of Italy’s Think Work Observe, I wish that I had the patience (and know-how) to fully develop working fonts. But for now, I can rest easy knowing that all that hard work is being done by others so that we can all reap the benefits.

Pam&Jenny is the Brussels-based studio of Nathalie Pollet. So much interesting work, going all the way back to 1998.

Today my first big website that I designed as a freelancer went live! It is for Raleigh based video production company, Myriad Media. Planning and managing such a big project on my own was such a huge learning experience. Luckily, the folks at Myriad Media are fantastic and we were completely open with each other throughout the process. And the programmer I worked with, Nick Coates from ForeverHeavy.com, was also wonderful about coming up with web friendly ideas.

With my background being strongly based in print design, I sometimes get frustrated with the limitations of web design. However, for this project I was quite pleased with the ideas that we came up with to give the site the same detail and friendliness as is in the culture book I designed for Myriad Media last year.
If you want to see more of the new site, you can check out my behance page or visit the real deal: www.myriadmedia.net.

I really love the breadth of style from Atelier Olschinski, a duo out of Austria. Just compare these two pieces above and below. Metropolis vs Space Odyssey.

They have such a great eye that extends not only to graphic design, but to photography, editorial art direction and plain old high-end concepts. I like. A lot.

Nice consistently conceptual and mostly abstract design work from Oslo’s Oh Yeah Studio.

Troels Faber and Jacob Wildschiødtz are the duo that make up the design studio NR2154 (“NR2154 is a project number emphasizing that the project always comes first”). Their body of engaging work runs the gamut from museum exhibits to postage stamps. And to top it off, they do it all while living thousands of miles apart (NYC + Copenhagen). Well done.

The work of Barcelona’s Studio Aparte recently caught my eye. With multiple projects that feature bespoke typefaces (which is never a small feat), their understated approach speaks volumes.
