Parallelwelt Zirkus

“The circus is often seen as a symbol for an exotic counterworld, a world of dreams, an alternative to our societal conventions. The circusworld isn’t however a stranger to hierarchies, it lives with its own set of laws, it exists in the everyday and is tied to the outside world. Thus, the circus acts within a set of actions that the audience is already familiar with by their own experience, yet stretches this awareness by extremism and irony.”

OK. This is my attempt at translating a little of the press release that came with the opening of this fascinating exhibit at the Kunsthalle, Wien—Parallelwelt Zirkus (parallel world, the circus). If you are in that area, go see this!

The exhibition includes works by Charles and Ray Eames, Matthew Barney, Frederico Fellini, Peter Blake, Cindy Sherman, and many more.

Graphic Design. Now in Production

A/ I really need everyone on the East Coast to go see this.

B/ “Co-organized by Andrew Blauvelt of the Walker Art Center and Ellen Lupton of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Graphic Design—Now in Production is the single largest exhibition of contemporary graphic design to take place in the United States in over 15 years.”

C/ Imagine being tasked (BY THE WALKER!!) to create an identity system and exhibit space for this. No big deal right?

Project Projects does it, again. They continue to create beautiful, meaningful, time-sensitive but also timeless work that strikes by simplicity and conceptual strength, by printed matter and exhibition design.  Just incredible (and rad).

workworkworkworkwork

This past weekend I saw a Charles LeDray exhibition called workworkworkworkwork at the ICA Museum in Boston. It consisted of an immense collection of handmade miniature-sized versions of everyday things. I was blown away by the details in each piece, the care put into crafting each miniature hanger, book, tie, etc. If you’re visiting Boston any time soon, I recommend checking it out!

special characters

If you are in the Triangle area of NC and you like typography and beer, then you should stop by the Busy Bee in Raleigh on Friday evening to check out the Special Characters show! My friends Jay Jay and Critter have put a lot of work into this type and lettering exhibition and it’s going to be awesome!

See you there!
