Dig! This!

I’m sure by now you’ve heard of The Brian Jonestown Massacre. If the name sounds familiar but you can’t place it, perhaps you’ve seen or heard of the documentary “DIG!” which follows the ascent & descent of the Dandy Warhols & The Brian Jonestown Massacre. It’s a pretty compelling film in it’s dissection of the warped genius that is Anton Newcombe, the lead singer of BJM.

Brian Hiatt – Rolling Stone:
The gifted Newcombe’s systematic destruction of his own promising career — ruining a major-label showcase by getting into a fistfight with his bandmates, blowing his advance money on a bunch of sitars — is the tragicomic heart of the film, which follows Newcombe and his band for seven years. It’s rendered all the more poignant by the growing stardom of the documentary’s other featured band, the Massacre’s onetime friends the Dandy Warhols, who are as cheerful and functional as Newcombe and his band are tortured.”

If you live in the Triangle, then you’re in luck; because BJM is coming to the Cradle on April 7.  Trust me, you don’t want to miss this show; musical tastes aside, it’s bound to be very entertaining.
