Second Birthday Giveaway

I know, I know. You’ve probably had your share of sappy thank you speeches after watching the Oscars last night. So I’m going to cut right to the chase: thanks homies. This past year has been quite a rollercoaster for we contributors and there were times when we thought we’d have to part with the site. After all of us getting laid off unexpectedly we had to scramble for a few months to make ends meet. Sometimes it was difficult to justify spending time working on the blog while we hadn’t landed a job or found some steady income. Luckily, though, we are all easily inspired, so things like being featured in HOW magazine really helped keep us going. Furthermore, we’ve all landed on our feet and have moved on to various great endeavors. We’ve also had the opportunity to bring on three wonderful new contributors this past year and we hope to continue to grow this year.

Now. Let’s get to the good stuff, shall we!?

We’re really excited to have partnered with Urban Outfitters to bring you our most amazing giveaway to date. UO has been incredibly generous to us, and this would not have been possible without them. On top of the many gifts from UO, we have a number of other prizes brought to us by a handful of our favorite artists & friends. One sponsor in particular, Photojojo, hooked us up with an incredible piece of equipment to give away & deserves special thanks. Once again – a HUGE thank you is in order for all of our giveaway sponsors.

Blackarm Begins

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Blackarm Bespoke launch party held at the Labour Love Gallery in Durham. Blackarm Bespoke, if you remember, is the custom footwear brand started by good friend of OK Great, Kieran Ionescu. The party also featured a presentation from the good people of Raleigh Denim, Victor & Sarah. Raleigh Denim had been a strong supporter of Kieran from the outset, so it was nice to see everyone together celebrating the launch. John Pelphrey, owner of Labour Love, spent all day prior to the party building a custom presentation wall for his guests. Super-friggin-nice-guy.

See more pictures from the launch & read about Raleigh Denim + Blackarm Bespoke after the jump.

Blackarm Bespoke

I am pleased to introduce local designer Kieran Ionescu. I met Kieran a couple of years ago right before he moved to Hungary to apprentice under a master shoe maker. How cool is that!? He’s back in Durham now and he’s started a custom footwear business called Blackarm Bespoke. “Shoes are bench made, one pair at a time, by hand, using traditional methods. Commissions are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.” A lot of thoughtful care goes into each pair of shoes which is completely evident in the final product.

To celebrate the new business, Kieran is teaming up with our friends from Raleigh Denim for a special launch party. The event will be held at Labour Love Gallery in Durham on Saturday, December 5th at 6pm. Be there, fools!
