Many of you are probably familiar with the artists/toy makers/creators of all things cute+happy, FriendsWithYou. To celebrate the opening of Section 2 of the High Line Park in NYC, they teamed up with AOL to create a 40-piece environmental installation called Rainbow City. As you can see from the pictures above, this installation is pretty much a playground of brightly colored inflatable creatures, and it looks like so much fun! If you are planning a visit to NYC, the exhibition will be open until July 5, so you still have some time to swing by and check it out. You can visit FriendsWithYou’s website for more photos & information.

I really like the light-hearted fun present in the work of Swedish artist Johan Thörnqvist. Check out more below the jump!

Do guys remember my friend Jaime VanWart who designed the Tasty Beverage Co. identity? Well, she’s done some more awesome branding for another cool local business. This time the client is Parlour, Durham’s latest food truck addition, a mini school bus turned mobile ice cream parlor. I have yet to try their ice cream, but it is definitely on my to do list!

Last weekend I went to Raleigh for the First Friday gallery crawl and I came across the work Thomas Swanston at Flanders Gallery. Swanston’s work is peaceful and understated, featuring muted colors and precious metal leaf. You can check out more of his work on his website.

I really adore these terrariums by Assembly New York. Geometry + succulents, what’s not to love?

Alexis Marcou is a freelance illustrator with a website is full of pretty things. He’s currently living in Cyprus and has done work for Nike, which makes me more than a little bit jealous of his life. Click below the jump or head on over to his site to see some more of his awesome work.

I really like these dreamy photos of Villerville, Normandy shot by french photographer Laurent Nivalle. Check out the travel section of his website, there’s a lot of really amazing things in there that make me ready to go on vacation!

I’m digging the characters and illustration style of Liverpool-based artist Harry Nesbitt.

I went to Asheville this past weekend, and whilst perusing the work of local artists at the Woolworth gallery I stumbled upon these beautiful pieces by Heather Knight. Heather got her BFA at UNC Asheville and then started her studio, Element Clay Studio, in 2007. All of her pieces are 100% hand made and inspired by natural textures and forms. I want one of everything!
My fellow NCSU design school graduate, Wes Richardson, made this ridiculously awesome music video. You should watch it, I guarantee you will like it. It’s always great to see what really talented designers can do when they make things just for fun.
