myriad media website

Today my first big website that I designed as a freelancer went live! It is for Raleigh based video production company, Myriad Media. Planning and managing such a big project on my own was such a huge learning experience. Luckily, the folks at Myriad Media are fantastic and we were completely open with each other throughout the process. And the programmer I worked with, Nick Coates from ForeverHeavy.com, was also wonderful about coming up with web friendly ideas.

With my background being strongly based in print design, I sometimes get frustrated with the limitations of web design. However, for this project I was quite pleased with the ideas that we came up with to give the site the same detail and friendliness as is in the culture book I designed for Myriad Media last year.

If you want to see more of the new site, you can check out my behance page or visit the real deal: www.myriadmedia.net.

Etsy finds: Laptop cases

I just took the plunge and bought a new 15″ MacBook Pro. Though upgrading was long over due, it’s always scary to drop that much money on a computer. I’ve been surfing the web looking for a case for my new friend, and here are some cute options I found on Etsy:

1. OggoThings
2. JiuJiu
3. BluCase
4. BagyBag

LSDK

I really like this event invitation done by German design firm LSDK. Their whole portfolio is great, which is extra impressive considering they were just founded in 2009. You can check out more on their website.

Ducati for ANCMA

Do you like Where’s Waldo and biking? If you do, then I think you’ll like this advertisement by Japanese design studio IC4Design. IC4 Design does a lot of charming cityscape illustrations, but I think this one is my favorite because of its message. You can check out the rest of their portfolio and even watch a video of the creation of this ad on their behance page.

a new leaf.

I’ll admit, I’ve been a bad blogger this month. But, I have a good excuse! Three weeks ago I made a big change and moved from Durham, NC to Cambridge, MA. Then just days after the move I jetted off to spend two weeks traveling around Costa Rica & Panama. And now I’m back and trying to get settled, and I’m starting my career as a 100% freelance designer. I have two semi-regular clients now, and enough work to last me several months, but it’s kind of scary to only be able to plan a couple months in advance. But also quite liberating.

new home work space

So, here’s to my new leaf. I’m excited about freelancing because I will get to have my hands in all parts of the process, but I’m sure I will have a lot to learn. Wish me luck! I hope New England treats me well. I included some photos from my trip after the jump in case you want to daydream about beautiful places.

cityfabric kickstarter

There’s a lot going on over at cityfabric these days. You guys may remember when I posted about them back in November. Well, now they have a new logo and an awesome new kickstarter project with lots of new collateral—if they raise $13,000 by August 31, you will be able to get their signature figureground maps on pillows, totes, canvases, prints and limited edition t-shirts. Watch the video above to learn more about their project and support your local business!

puffed peonies

Puffed Peonies is the Etsy shop of Illinois-based artist Brittany Jackson. I love the simple shapes and color palates in her prints, they would go great in any room. I want one for my new apartment! You can check out more prints in her shop.
