Ty Mattson, of Mattson Creative (same dude behind those sweet lost posters) clearly has a lot of gifts, but he and his wife have recently been given another. No better way to show your kid how much you love them, then to create a completely kick ass birth announcement. This amazing print press announcement is very well laid out and uses some really fun illustrations and colors. I can honestly say I have never seen such a sick birth announcement. So taste it Hallmark and Shoebox. The bar has been set. Your move. Read the rest of this entry »

I really love the dreamlike landscapes in Betsy Walton’s work. I am also find these words about her process really inspiring:
I work with a spontaneous approach and few expectations of specific results. I rarely sketch preliminary drawings before diving into a painting, in the belief that the image formed through the painting process itself will be rich, revealing, and vital.

I will simply quote from this site:
From the Latin “venter” meaning belly.
Ventral is fifty percent of the visual cortex, associated with object recognition
and form representation. Connected to the brains’ limbic system, it elicits
emotive stimulation throughout the body.
For all the times you get that feeling of warm, golden uncertainty in your belly.

Laurie is an awesome illustrator based out of Durham, NC. She’s done loads of apparel & illustration work for the music industry. She also happens to have the most badass freelance gig on the planet… designing custom drum kit wraps for SJC… drool. I always love to see such excellent local talent!

Clearly.
I mean, can we just talk about the brilliance in his brevity, as seen here in “Evolution of the Muff.”
If you don’t check out this guy’s incredible work after the jump, I will have to punch you in the throat.

Matthew Lyons is a talented illustrator who creates some amazing “mad men” era looking work. He does such a great job building interesting and consistently styled environments using muted color palettes and 50’s-esque geometric shapes. I really enjoy Matthew’s imagination and style. Seriously, I went through his whole flickr photostream looking at each unique piece, wishing I had a print.
Check out his latest work entitled “Location”.

Meet Mr. Josh Evans, pen slanger extraordinaire. Josh’s site is crazy interesting to roll through as he couples each piece with a plain, straightforward, single sentence explanation of each piece. It’s more fun than it sounds. See: “this piece is about my fear of decapitated heads.” It’s the third one down, if you’re wondering.
