Hi, we're OK Great, a tight-knit crew of designers, writers + artists, hell-bent on delivering the best in art, design and culture. The world is a big pile of awesome. We're the spoon. Dig in.
How awesome is this? Porridge Papers has a line of 100% recycled paper with seeds mixed in. If you moisten the paper and plant it under some soil in a sunny spot, it actually grows! I would love to do a project with this paper, it’s so fun!
I saw the title of this on Vimeo and first thought it was going to be a “Starwars Kid” type video of some dude, bored, playing with his beloved childhood toy in his mom’s basement. Half of that is true. Patrick Boivin is talented stop motion animator who created this well thought out short film showing what life would be like with a pet At-At. Totally cool concept and very well executed. I mean, even “Jabba the Poo” makes an appearance! Check out his other awesome stop motion work on Vimeo. And yes, he has a Michael Jackson vs. Mr. Bean dance off video. Shamone!
Brooklyn’s Hyperakt has designed this super clean World Cup radial bracket poster. If you want one, head on over to Kickstarter and pledge your support.
Check out Canadian artist Howie Tsui. His newest series, “Horror Fables” (looks just like it sounds) seems to combine elements of Japanese brush painting with dark, Western iconography for an unsettling effect. The collection of pieces created in 2008 + 2009 is also available for purchase as a book from Howie’s site.
The skizzomat diary is the personal playground of Berlin-based illustrator and designer Marie Luise Emmermann. Her collage work fascinates me, it’s unexpected—and since it’s a diary format, maybe a little less polished. A little eerie. A lot beautiful. A lot to look at.
Also great: her published section of her design studio, skizzomat.
Go ahead and spend the next sixteen minutes watching Marian Bantjes give your brain a workout. Bantjes discusses her transformative experience in her career, where she went from being your run of the mill graphic designer to, as she calls herself now, a graphic artist. Her process involved injecting that heretical thing that graphic designers are never (NEVER!) to inject into their work – ego. I have a lot more thoughts on this topic, but I think I need to let them marinate for a little bit… So until then, just watch the video and soak it up. Tons of great insight, and lots of gorgeous eye-candy.
More than decent print & packaging work from Australian agency Mash. I don’t particularly like vodka, but it’s become clear to me that I need to design a bottle before I hang my hat with design. This is just about as sexy as they come in terms of packaging…
Neawear is a Montreal-based company run by Janick, who quit her day job as a graphic designer to focus on making jewelery and embroidery. Her Etsy shop is full of wonderful things, and reading this interview she did makes me daydream about what I would do if I ever wanted to take a break from graphic design.
Matthew Lyons is a talented illustrator who creates some amazing “mad men” era looking work. He does such a great job building interesting and consistently styled environments using muted color palettes and 50’s-esque geometric shapes. I really enjoy Matthew’s imagination and style. Seriously, I went through his whole flickrphotostream looking at each unique piece, wishing I had a print.
Check out his latest work entitled “Location”.
