Hi, we're OK Great, a tight-knit crew of designers, writers + artists, hell-bent on delivering the best in art, design and culture. The world is a big pile of awesome. We're the spoon. Dig in.
OK, so Daytrotter isn’t anything new, I gathered that but I just discovered it today + I’m assuming there are at least a handful of you out there that haven’t stumbled on it just yet so for those few, this post is for you.
What is new is the video above. So, if you haven’t visited or downloaded from Daytrotter yet, watch + learn. If you’re a longtime fan, hell, the video is still great. Take a look behind the scenes.
Will Shea is an 18 year old student who will head off to college in the fall. If the geometric, space age illustrations in his portfolio are any indication, I’d say this kid’s future is bright. Like the friggin’ sun.
Kaeleen Wescoat O’Neill is only a few months out of school at Art Center College of Design + she’s already built a portfolio bursting at the seams with some amazing illustrative watercolors.
Check out Canadian artist Howie Tsui. His newest series, “Horror Fables” (looks just like it sounds) seems to combine elements of Japanese brush painting with dark, Western iconography for an unsettling effect. The collection of pieces created in 2008 + 2009 is also available for purchase as a book from Howie’s site.
Meet Mr. Josh Evans, pen slanger extraordinaire. Josh’s site is crazy interesting to roll through as he couples each piece with a plain, straightforward, single sentence explanation of each piece. It’s more fun than it sounds. See: “this piece is about my fear of decapitated heads.” It’s the third one down, if you’re wondering.
I just stumbled on this great portfolio, full of quiet + simple film photography by Marija Strajnic. The stillness of the majority of her portfolio creates a nice backdrop for the photos that do have some action (like #5).
AWWW YEAHHHH. It’s giveaway time again (yay). This time around, we’re joining forces with Sydney, Australia’s Das Monk, a graphic apparel company that just flat out kills it on every front. The imprint teams up with a new group of artists every three months to create a release a new line of shirts. They’ve been gracious enough to offer up one t-shirt for FOUR lucky readers.
Here’s the scoop: go check out the Das Monk site + all of their amazing shirts/hoodies/tank tops. Come back here to OKG + enter in one of three ways.
1. Leave a comment on this post + let us know which 3 shirts you’d like to win most. If you’re chosen as one of the winners, Das Monk will pick 1 of the 3 choices + send it your way.
2. Follow us on Twitter + tweet the following message: “Enter to win the Das Monk giveaway from @okaygreat http://bit.ly/dtbcql”
3. Like us on Facebook. Leave a post on our wall or a comment on the post about the giveaway w/ your top 3 shirt choices.
Entries close next Monday (5/24) at 11:59 PM, EST. Winners will be announced on Tuesday morning. GOOD LUCK!
Oswald Cromheecke, a Belgian art student, couples satirical nods to pop culture with grim cross sections of familiar, if not unfortunate, scenarios. See: Teletubbies at war.
Oswald’s portfolio is very small, so I’ll limit this post to one image. Go check out his stuff!
