“The circus is often seen as a symbol for an exotic counterworld, a world of dreams, an alternative to our societal conventions. The circusworld isn’t however a stranger to hierarchies, it lives with its own set of laws, it exists in the everyday and is tied to the outside world. Thus, the circus acts within a set of actions that the audience is already familiar with by their own experience, yet stretches this awareness by extremism and irony.”

OK. This is my attempt at translating a little of the press release that came with the opening of this fascinating exhibit at the Kunsthalle, Wien—Parallelwelt Zirkus (parallel world, the circus). If you are in that area, go see this!

The exhibition includes works by Charles and Ray Eames, Matthew Barney, Frederico Fellini, Peter Blake, Cindy Sherman, and many more.

Jason Dean of The Best Part is an old friend of the blog who actually started his blog right around the time we did. Jason has been doing some awesome work over past few years, but one of my favorite pieces from him is this SF print. As Jason puts it, ‘by day, this glow-in-the-dark poster features a quaint vignette of San Francisco. But when the lights go out, a town full of crime, sex, guns and pirates (and a few extra hidden surprises) appears.’ If you like this print, there’s more to come from Jason in Giveaway #3!

Runaway is a southern lifestyle brand based out of Durham, NC. I met Gabriel Eng-Goetz a few years ago and have watched him grow his business over the past year, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Runaway participating. Bound Custom Journals – Designer Camouflage Journal

Finally, another good citizen of OK Greatland, Michael Faber & his team at Bound Custom Journals has donated one of their limited edition journals. Details from Michael: A Bound “Uncustom” Journal from the folks at http://boundforanything.com.  The Designer Camouflage edition is a short-run (only about 30 made) of memo notebooks with alternating dot grid and lined pages within.  And we’ll throw in a sticker.  And maybe some other Bound loot, too.  YOU NEVER KNOW.

You can file this away as some of the most important news you’ll read all morning: OK Great finally bought a new pair of pants.

Four years and four months after we began, we’ve finally redesigned our site and we couldn’t be: 1. More pleased with how it turned out and 2. More shocked that it’s actually, finally, seriously done! If you’re brand new here, here is a link to the posthumous original site (recreated to protect the dignity of all of us designers) as a reference point to how far we’ve come. Take some time to poke around the new digs & please let us know what you think.

First off, the crew at OK Great would like to thank Todd Synan for being such a generous & patient dude. He’s the genius behind the saucy rollover functionality on our striped header. Yaaaaaaaa. Needless to say, Todd is an outstanding front-end developer so please help us repay our debt by hiring him on your next web project. (Ask about his specials on powerpoint & keynote layouts!)

We’d also like to thank all of our readers for their dedication over the past four years. This is an absolute labor of love for all of us here, so we truly appreciate all of your love & support!

Finally, to further revel in the glory that is our new site, we’re going to run THREE giveaways starting tomorrow!! Derrick Castle is a talented illustrator from Nashville TN. I stumbled across Derrick’s work on dribbble and really liked his tattoo infused illustration style. Wood block carvings are tight. You can get your hands on his prints at his etsy store or wear his art at big cartel.

B/ “Co-organized by Andrew Blauvelt of the Walker Art Center and Ellen Lupton of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Graphic Design—Now in Production is the single largest exhibition of contemporary graphic design to take place in the United States in over 15 years.”

C/ Imagine being tasked (BY THE WALKER!!) to create an identity system and exhibit space for this. No big deal right?

Project Projects does it, again. They continue to create beautiful, meaningful, time-sensitive but also timeless work that strikes by simplicity and conceptual strength, by printed matter and exhibition design.  Just incredible (and rad).
