Do you like Where’s Waldo and biking? If you do, then I think you’ll like this advertisement by Japanese design studio IC4Design. IC4 Design does a lot of charming cityscape illustrations, but I think this one is my favorite because of its message. You can check out the rest of their portfolio and even watch a video of the creation of this ad on their behance page.

Lei Melendres (aka Leight) is a talented illustrator from the Philippines who doodles like a boss. His work really inspires me to doodle more frequently and work on my handmade type skills. There is so much detail in his work, I pull something new out almost every time I take a look.

Luke Bott is a talented designer from Wichita, Kansas whose work mirrors his obvious taste in decades, music and more. You can find lots of great personal work in his professional portfolio; it’s a nice insight into the artist that gets lost in portfolio’s a lot of the time.

Instagram doesn’t need any introduction. What I like even more than this wildly popular app though is when awesome people make something out of it, or use it to create new stories. Like Callie Peck, NYC based all-around talent—on Instagram as Cest Quoi—interviewing people with amazing diptych portraits to go with the words (click on comments).
Her feed is pretty amazing—follow her, friends!

Fantastic stuff from Duane ‘The Rock’ Hosein. ‘The Rock’ may or may not be his nickname though.

Jessica Hische may not have coined the term, but she defines procrastiworking. In addition to being a prolific letterer, typographer, and designer, she also the proprietor of approx 1/7 of the internet (up to about 1/4 when you eliminate all serious sites). One of her new endeavors is something a bit more useful – Inker Linker. It’s a simple site where you can find printers based on the type of printing they do, your priorities for the job, and (soon) their location. I think this will be a really useful resource for us freelancers who need to find an offset printer or a letterpressman for a print job. Also, if you’re a printer, and you’re reading this, head over and post your info on the site so you can be listed.
I love the touches on the site too – like the crosshair for the cursor, and heavy use of CMYK. Cooper Black also never looked so perfect.

Know what wabisabi means?
If not, look it up. Or soak in the tangible, rough, natural beauty of being as displayed in Claudia Perez‘ photography. Found on Flickr.

I know it’s not even September yet, but the unbelievable-oppressive heat is giving way to just regular heat, so maybe Autumn creeped into my consciousness lately… Anyway, these posters for Movember by TBWA Singapore are amazing.

French artist Guy le Tatooer’s tattoo arm exhibition at the gimpel & muller gallery in Paris looks amazing. These stunning tattoos do a good job of outweighing the whole severed hanging arm creep factor. Give Guy a hand, actually give him a whole arm because he may make a silicone replica of it, skillfully ink it and use it in his next show.

I’ll admit, I’ve been a bad blogger this month. But, I have a good excuse! Three weeks ago I made a big change and moved from Durham, NC to Cambridge, MA. Then just days after the move I jetted off to spend two weeks traveling around Costa Rica & Panama. And now I’m back and trying to get settled, and I’m starting my career as a 100% freelance designer. I have two semi-regular clients now, and enough work to last me several months, but it’s kind of scary to only be able to plan a couple months in advance. But also quite liberating.

new home work space
So, here’s to my new leaf. I’m excited about freelancing because I will get to have my hands in all parts of the process, but I’m sure I will have a lot to learn. Wish me luck! I hope New England treats me well. I included some photos from my trip after the jump in case you want to daydream about beautiful places.
