BOO HISS: BUZZ LIST #5

BHBL5title

The holidays + Monday? Super awesome combo. That was sarcasm by the way if you couldn’t tell or are new around here. So since it’s jingle bell time and all that, I thought I’d explore some of my pet peeves for the season. I have a feeling no one is with me on this one, but hey, more buzz for me! Read the list after the jump.

Kristopher Ho

482__x600_the-ship

Kristopher Ho is an ambitious 23 year old illustrator from Hong Kong. He has plenty of work to pour through in his portfolio, but you should take some time to read about his ongoing project titled ‘Iblard.’ Since 2007 Kristopher has been developing a series of drawings outlining the various cities and spaces found in the entirely fictional land of Iblard. The project is still in early stages and I hope Kristopher eventually spends some time envisioning the inhabitants of the cities, but it’s a wonderful project with a lot of potential.

Pikka Agency

1258462390-1

Pikka is a Finnish illustration agency that has just launched a completely overhauled website. There’s an awesome selection of illustrators with a decent range of aesthetic capabilities. I actually like it when an agency such as this has a somewhat narrow aesthetic focus. I know the type of work I could get from them and I find that appealing.

Sroop Sunar

sroop-okgreat1

I was super excited to find these amazing illustrations from British-born, Indian-raised, London-based artist Sroop Sunar in my inbox this morning. There’s a quality in the production + aesthetic that’s really captivating. It’s the same quality that Sroop discovered as a teen in New Dehli, on labels + packages everywhere around her. She dutifully reproduces the ephemera of the culture that enchanted her as a kid. Pretty impressive stuff.

Timothy Briner

21

Check out these dark, sobering photographs from Timothy Briner. Not exactly the breeziest imagery for a Monday morning, but it certainly got my attention. These are all part of series titled ‘Boonville,’ which ‘connects six American small towns, their diverse landscapes, and unique individuals, into one unifying view of America.’

More images & a video of Timothy speaking about ‘Boonville’ after the jump…

Moving Inspiration

movieposters1

I really, really, really need some uplifting inspiration today. I caught myself thinking, “Man, they don’t make things like they used to.” Apparently I am one thousand years old. On the plus side I love to collect things for you lovely readers. I love the drama, surprise and sheer boldness of these posters from the 70s. I also vouch for all the films, so you can also update your Netflix queue while you’re at work. Isn’t multitasking rad?

Can you imagine an illustrated New Moon poster? Like, not out of craft paper with hearts over the hotter dude’s abs? Ah, the good old days…enjoy!
