Another Side of Ryan Berkley

So, I’ve already posted about Ryan Berkley and his illustrations of Kenny.  But I was looking at my living room wall last night and my eyes crossed a little portrait of a Great White Shark in a suit that Kristy had given me as a birthday gift this past year.  Makes me laugh everytime.  And I remembered, Ryan Berkley has an extensive series of these portraits.  And they’re awesome.

I mean, a BIG collection of portraits.  Siamese cat, red fox, giraffe, raven, ducks, geese, raccoon,  meerkat, caterpillar and on and on.  Name an animal, and Ryan Berkley probably has them wearing a tie.

If you’re into series’ of anything, like I am, Ryan’s Etsy shop is definitely worth checking out.  I don’t know why this dude doesn’t have a proper website.   Write him an email and tell him to work it out.

That last photo has nothing to do with the series of portraits but you know what?  It’s a chameleon on the run from the cops and an old hobo w/ roses shuffling down the street.  So that’s fine.

OK GREAT BAND ON TOUR!

Flywheel Band
This our band. But, we need a name. Here’s what I’m thinking:
1. SWORD IN THE WATER
2. FR8 BUZZ CHOPS KIDD
3. GIANT STUFF
4. FLYFACEFIST
5. WHEEL OF TERROR ROCK
6. STALK YOU
7. COLDPLAY
8. BOOYAKASHAAAA

Unfortunately, THE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT was taken. By the way, anyone who can guess what album cover I ripped this off of – I’ll buy you some candy. Auditions are held on Friday Mornings underground, must bring your own axe and don’t mess with the singer. NEVER MESS WITH SINGERS, Y’ALL.

marigold parlour

Growing up, all of my haircuts were done by my mom in either the backyard or the kitchen. But now my mom lives 3 hours away, so necessity finally forced me to go to a real hair salon. And so by my friends’ recommendation, I started going to the coolest salon in Raleigh. Marigold Parlour has been open for about 2 years, and it is a really neat space with nice interior design. You can check out more photos on their website.

Recession Proof Alcoholism

Stumbled upon this site and had to pass it on.  myopenbar.com is a website that provides pretty comprehensive & updated daily listings of open-bar events in a handful of major cities.  Coincidentally, a decent amount of the events revolve around live bands, art galleries and the like.  A handy resource for the alcoholic, socialite or casual drinker during these tough economic times.  Drink up!

Here are the final versions of the Doughman posters that we just presented to the client. If you remember, we did some dough typography experiments for this project a couple weeks ago. But after a team marketing meeting, we decided not to go that direction.

Keep an eye out for our posters around town! And if eating and running at the same time sounds like fun to you, then check out the Doughman website.

Ghostshrimp

gs4.jpg

Ghostshrimp is a guy named Dan.  Dan is from my homeland, New Hampshire.  In the past, I avoided Dan at parties and avoided his illustrations because of an overwhelmingly large and present community of hipsters that jock his style relentlessly.  Tired of hearing about how so many people “knew Ghostshrimp” (not liked his art, just knew him), I subconsciously boycotted homie’s work for the past few years.

I don’t live in NH anymore.  I live in NC.  And no one here talks about anything from NH.  Hell, no one anywhere outside of New England talks about NH.  So here’s some work from Ghostshrimp.  It’s a lot easier to like when you don’t draw an immediate association between it and nerds at house parties.  The relevance of this backstory?  There isn’t any, I guess.  Look at the illustrations.

Unwavering style is my new favorite thing.  I feel like 75% of the artists portfolios that I look at have two or three disciplines and only one is good.  So, hat’s off Ghostshrimp for doing everything you can with a single aesthetic.  I like it.

If associating Ghostshrimp with me and this obnoxious post hasn’t turned you off, you can see more (a lot more) of his work (and buy some stuff) at his site.  Do it!
